Socially Charged

Teenagers spend most of their time with friends. What is the most common answer that a teenager gives when asked how they and their friends spend their time? Most of the time the answer is "just hanging out." Teenagers spend a lot of time just talking to each other. Even though it may be annoying for parents when their teenager stays on the phone with their best friend for three hours - without giving them the time of day - this is how young adolescents learn about themselves and each other. It may seem that teens go through friends as quickly as an infant grows out of clothes, but this usually occurs because in "trying" out friends, the teenager will discover more about their own interests, desires, and hopes for the future. Teenagers gravitate toward others like them, who like to participate in the same activities and hobbies. Teenagers who spend time with their friends engaging in productive activities, like arts and athletics, generally enjoy school more. Students who are socially fulfilled are happy, and happy students learn. On the other hand teenagers who do not have positive social relationships can become maladjusted and become at risk for more significant problems such as antisocial, risky, or destructive behavior, which also add to academic difficulty.
